Death Notice, 29 December 1992


PAPE - Chester E. Pape, Jr., of 4 Erdmann Lane, Wilton, died Wednesday, December 23, in Norwalk Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy Channing Pape. Born in New York City on October 1, 1914, Chet was the son of the late Louise Mugler Pape and Chester Edwin Pape.

He was a decorated Officer of the Emergency Police Department of New York City, and had been named to their Honor Legion for valor. He also received an award from Mayor Fiorella LaGuardia.

Upon retirement, Mr. Pape started the first automated lawn care service in lower Fairfield County. He moved from Bayside, NY to Wilton, CT in 1973.

As a member of the Wilton Congregational Church, he served on several boards in various capacities. He belonged to the Kiwanis Club of Wilton, where he was elected to the Board of Directors. He was also a member of Temple Lodge #65 F. & A.M. in Westport, and formerly a member of the Lion's club of New Canaan. He was a volunteer for FISH, a Peer Conselor for the Wilton Department of Social Services, an honored Senior volunteer of the Federal Domestic Volunteer Agency, and an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau of Fairfield County. Chet belonged to the Silvermine Golf Club.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Dorothy; son Randall Carter Pape of Redding; daughter, Judith Pape Restuccia; grandsons, Michael C. and Jedediah Stowe Restuccia; sister, Ethel Whiteway of Elmont, NY; and brother Robert Pape of Melville, NY. He was pre-deceased by his brother Howard Pape of Cambridge, NY.

A memorial service will be held at the Wilton Congregational Church at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 3. There will be no calling hours. Internment is private. The family requests that flowers be omitted and contributions be made to Nursing & Home Care, P.O. Box 489, Wilton, CT; the Oncology Department of Norwalk Hospital for nurses education; or the American Cancer Society.
